From the Principal
We are officially rolling now at Realms High School! It has been a fast start to the school year and it’s hard to believe but we are about to start the 3rd full week of a 13 week trimester. We are excited to have students back on campus and to continue to bring to life the “merger” of Realms and Skyline High School!
Assistant Principal Zach Harju and I strongly recommend that you join us for our “Assessment & Grading at RHS” Webex on Tuesday October 5th, ESPECIALLY if you are new to Realms High School. We want to be sure you know how to support your high schooler through the academic challenges.
Please reach out to us if you have any questions!
Roger White, Principal.

iPad Reminders!
IMPORTANT: iPad insurance for this school year is available online through the end of the month (which is THIS THURSDAY). Don’t get stuck paying for a screen crack or your stolen iPad! Insurance is only good for ONE school year, so if you haven’t bought it yet, now is your chance. $30 per year. Use this link (also accessible via the school website) to purchase insurance: https://touchbase.bend.k12.or.us/
9th Grade Families: Acceptable Use Agreement Required – 9th graders are required to sign and return the Acceptable Use Agreement. Please download, review it with your student, and either email it back to [email protected] or print and return to the office. Thanks!
COVID-19 Reminders
We are doing everything we can on campus to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, including enforcing consistent and proper mask use, distancing and quarantining when needed, though our goal is to KEEP KIDS IN SCHOOL (and safe)!!

Please remember that students (and staff) experiencing symptoms should stay home, even if you think it is “just a cold”!! Bend LaPine has put together an updated Ready Set Learn – an EXCELLENT and easy to understand resource for what to do and what to expect when it comes to COVID on campus.
When in doubt please call our office!!
Canvas & ParentVue – Our Academic Communication Tools
We will be sharing more details and showing you how to access all your student’s information on Canvas & Synergy during a WebEx on
Tuesday October 5th, at 6PM on Webex Here
WHAT IS CANVAS? Canvas is our Learning Management System and is the tool that students and teachers use daily to “post” post assignments, resources, instructions and important information on a daily basis. Students use Canvas to access these assignments/resources, track their due dates, submit their work and access feedback (and grades) from teachers!
WHAT CANVAS IS NOT? Canvas does NOT replace an interactive and dynamic classroom environment where learning by doing, learning by discussion, and learning by discovery takes place every day! Realms HS is founded on a mission of interactive and experiential learning, and the power of learning not just individually, but also as a member of a classroom community. Canvas is a great tool to supplement our dynamic, in-person classroom environment and to provide access to resources for students when they are not on campus!
WHERE TO LOOK FOR ACADEMIC PROGRESS INFORMATION? Right now, the place for students (and parents) to find and track information about assignment completion, feedback and grades is in Canvas. Teachers will be providing narrative feedback and scoring assignments in Canvas. We are NOT currently uploading grades to ParentVue, however that data and information will be available by Monday October 4th at the latest.
Please be advised that, while scores that start to show up in Canvas are representative of individual assignment grades, the overall course grades are not currently being calculated correctly in canvas.
WHEN WILL OVERALL LETTER GRADES BE VISIBLE? At RHS we have always pursued a style of grading and reporting called Standards Based Grading that provides far GREATER equity, accuracy, transparency and “usability” for students and parents. Standards based scores and grades will be available on ParentVue no later than Monday October 4th.
Until then, we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE students to check their individual scores on assignments and assessments in Canvas AND we strongly encourage any parents who want to keep tabs on their students’ academic progress to get signed up NOW for a Canvas Observer Account!
We will be sharing more details and showing you HOW to access all your information on Canvas during a WebEx on
Tuesday October 5th, at 6PM
Canvas – Setting Up Parent Observer Accounts
For parents who what to be able to check grades or support their student academically, setting up a Canvas Observer account is essential. We STRONGLY SUGGEST this for parents of all 9th and 10th graders, and for students in any grade who benefit from a little extra support at home for their school success!
Setting up a Parent Observer account in Canvas is actually not too tricky, and our school district has provided great instructions and help on this Canvas For Parents web page. The video below walks you through the steps. Remember, you WILL need your student’s help: your student will need to generate a “pairing code” from their Canvas account and give you that pairing code.
For Juniors and Seniors – College Info Night!
Realms HS Post High School Pathways Night: Explore the different post high school pathways, roles, resources, and initial steps needed to get there. Emphasis on college since fall/winter deadlines are more pressing. Also, Jen will talk through some Realms specific details. This invitation is for Realms juniors, seniors and families.

From Our Office: Medication at School?
Medication at School? Forms Required: If your student regularly takes medication (cramps, headaches, etc) we encourage you to complete a medication form to keep on file at school. This will give our staff permission to administer medication. We have Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen and Tums available. Any other medication will need to be provided in the original container labeled with the student’s name. We have printed copies of the medication forms available in our office. If you would like a form sent home with your student, please reach out.
Authorization Form For Self Administered Medication (student brings own medication)
Authorization Form For Staff Administered Medication (student leaves medication in office)
