I love that we still get to enjoy Kindergarten jack-o-lanterns!!!

This and That:

Please share your photos with me: Please continue to share photos of student art projects, special student activities, student cuteness, or fun moments with your team. I’d love to highlight some of the great stuff you all are doing in our newsletter. 🙂

Halloween Celebration: Here are some super cute Halloween announcements that Jessica created… please feel free to push them out to your families (English/ Spanish). More details will be emailed early this week. Below are the basics:

  • The morning will be normal instruction for students, and they can come by the school sometime in the afternoon between 1-4
  • Teachers/ teams can let students know if and when they will be there (teams- please let the office know your plans ASAP).
  • Treat bag items are supposed to arrive on Monday (crossing my fingers!)
  • Please plan on dressing-up/ being festive… several staff are going to be animals; please feel free to join in. Students are also invited to dress-up, but they will not be able to get out of their cars.
  • If we tie any materials distribution to the day, materials will also be available the morning before the event and the following week so that families can choose to skip the Halloween part if they choose.

Attendance Procedural Change: During CDL, please send both April and Sue an EMAIL with the previous day’s attendance NO LATER THAN 9:00. Every classroom teacher will need to send an email each day (even if all of your students were “present”). Please set an alarm or do whatever you need to do to get in the habit of doing this each day without a reminder from April. Thank you.

Technology Support for Families: (From Becky in IT) – The student support line, 541-355-8700 has been successful helping students with their iPads, thanks to school staff, instructional coaches, site technicians, and IT helpdesk folks. The calls coming to the 8700 line have reduced to 15 or less per day and are now specific to school sites.  Beginning November 2, 2020, we will return to the typical model where these calls will go directly to the schools for support.  The helpdesk will no longer receive the calls or voicemails.  The phone number, 355-8700 will still be used by families.

If needed, your tier 1 support staff member can continue to reach out to your site technician or the helpdesk for support. Here is a simple Tech Help Flow Chart that shows how a student can get help with their iPad. Families should continue to work with their internet provider to help with equipment, network, or internet issues. Calls are currently going to your tier 1 support staff member’s phone line.  We will continue to use this phone line.

YouTube News: (From Amy Tarnow) – As of October 26th, 2020, teachers of students in grades K-8 will have the ability to individually approve YouTube videos. This will allow these teachers and students to more predictably access educational content that might live outside of our strict filter setting. With this power comes great responsibility. The approving teacher’s name will be associated with videos that they approve, and these videos will be visible for all students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade, not just that teacher’s students. For that reason, teachers need to be careful NOT to approve a video unless it directly supports instruction and learning goals for students.  More information and directions on how to use this feature are contained in this blog post from our Instructional Technology Team.

ELL Department Newsletter: Each month, the ELL Department puts out a newsletter and I share some of the information from that newsletter in the Eagle Essentials. This month, the second page of the newsletter had several great tips, so I’m just sharing the whole newsletter. Take a look at the second page for some great ideas.
