The first annual Valentine’s Dance was a HUGE success! There was a big turnout and lots of family fun! Thank you to our staff who made it to the Friday night event after a looonnnggg week. 🙂

This and That:

UKG Time and Leave FAQs (From HR): UKG Time and Leave is going live THIS MONDAY, February 13. All timesheets and leave requests should be completed through Frontline or UKG (depending on your position). Here is a document that we will update as new questions arise. You can also reach out to Chris for questions.

Erin’s Law (From Kelle): Earlier this year, I told you that Elk Meadow would continue to use SafeTouch another year despite knowing that we will have to change to a new curriculum next year. Unfortunately, I misspoke. We are required to move to the new curriculum this school year. All grade levels will teach our new Erin’s Law curriculum this April (child abuse awareness month). There will be training and support provided to all staff in March.

Erin’s Law (From TLC): Here are the Kid’s Center slides from the optional workshop on 2/6.  As a reminder, more information and training on health curriculum/materials to support Erin’s Law (formerly, we used Safe Touch) implementation will come from the elementary curriculum team.  We have a couple schools piloting a new curriculum for Erin’s Law.  The rest of the schools will use the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center materials we used last year.  Julie will send out information soon with a timeline and links for implementation.

Menstrual Dignity Act (From TLC):  We are continuing the phased installation and implementation of hardware and products in all bathrooms in accordance with state expectations and timelines.  More soon on the next steps in that roll-out.    In the meantime, here is the updated Toolkit the state released a couple months ago.  Section IV: Education has relevant tools for K-12 classroom conversations and instruction.    **Note from Kelle… I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that Classroom teachers, SPED staff, nurses, multilingual staff, and front office staff all read this section (pages 14-20) soon so that you are not caught off guard when the next steps are implemented in the next couple of months.** If you have questions, please contact Kelle or a LEAD/Equity Coach.

LEAD/Equity TOSAs: Our equity coaches are available to partner on preparing family communications ahead of controversial/sensitive lessons, to co-plan or co-teach, or to help pull resources and materials for teams.  Don’t forget about the follow-up anti-bias lessons!

Educator Network Day (From Instructional Technology): Our instructional technology team is partnering with the Central Oregon STEM Hub to offer a Computer Science SIW on the Educator Network Day next week. This session will provide hands-on stations to learn more about the loanable equipment available, including Ozobots, Spheros, and Bee-Bots. The team would love to see as many schools represented as possible. If you know someone on your staff who would enjoy this session, please encourage them to sign-up here or in Performance Matters. Reach out to Tracy Howk or Robbie Faith with questions.

Free ESOL Endorsement: Certified teacher- Are you interested in getting your ESOL endorsement for free?  Bend-La Pine Schools has a partnership with OSU to cover all tuition and costs associated with ESOL certification.  Our goal is to increase the number of classroom teachers who are highly trained in supporting culturally- and linguistically diverse learners and families.  We have had several cohorts of teachers selected for this opportunity in prior years, who have earned their ESOL endorsement with no cost, moved over on the pay scale, and are better equipped to serve our students and families! If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, you must apply by April 3.  Additional details are here.

Building Alarms (From Anne Birky- BLS Maintenance): I have received several calls from Central Station this morning, and burglar alarms are going off throughout the District. PLEASE remind your staff that on days when there is no school, it is likely that you won’t have custodial staff in the building and so the alarms will be set. Staff coming into the building will need to go through the front door and put their code into the keypad to disarm the building.

SIW: This Wednesday will be an “A” week for our specialist schedule. The SIW this Wednesday is “Educator Network;” Be sure you have registered for the workshop you will be attending so that the presenter knows what to plan for.

Monday Staff Meeting Agenda: Our staff meeting will be for committee share-outs. Committee leads… please be ready to share what your committee is planning for the spring and what staff can expect their role will be.
