Sparrow Stuff the Jars: What an awesome first week for Sparrow Autumn, but we have four more days to crush this fundraiser before it ends on Friday, June 4. Below are the cash collection results so far by grade and staff. If you wish, you can now donate online via TouchBase (click on the category SPARROW). We will continue collecting cash or checks made payable to PCMS. I want to remind you that a generous and anonymous PCMS parent has offered to match the amount donated by our 8th graders. We will most certainly be enjoying some fun with water on the last day of school!

  • 6th Grade: $224.76
  • 7th Grade: $218.00
  • 8th Grade: $468.00
  • Staff: $22.00
  • Total: $932.76

Extra Income for June 9th Athletics Event: We are still looking for support on June 9th for our Volleyball Jamboree at PCMS and Wrestling Match at Cascade MS. We will need a lot of help so if you are able and can put it on your calendar, please sign-up here. Times, position and stipend amounts are listed on each tab in the link. Go Golden Eagles!

State Testing Wrap Up: We have 43 tests left to administer after two weeks of testing. These must finish up this week so staff will be pulling students from classes to complete this. I know that pulling students at any time is not ideal but these must get completed. If you’re curious who might be leaving your class, the list is HERE.

Grade Level Meetings this Wednesday: Please meet as a grade level in order to talk about students who have been on our EBISS list this year and who may need to be on our watch list for 2021-2022. HERE is the EBISS list that we have used. Notice that there is a dark line at the bottom of each grade level tab. Please talk together to add any students who need to be listed under Watch List or simply copy and paste those students above who you believe still need to be on our list for next year. Teams will meet in Webex rooms at 2:30.

  • 6th Grade- Jane Ward
  • 7th Grade- Mark Segesta
  • 8th Grade- Sara Trakselis

Last Day of School Schedule: HERE is the schedule for the last day of school. Because we will have eaten based on 5th period for the rest of that week, that is what we will use that day as well. We will have specific COVID guidelines for the day and spaces that we will need to follow while we are outside. Ryan will share these with us as we get closer to the day. The fun outside will be as part of 7th period and then students will transition to their actual 7th period class. This way, students are in specific locations at the end of the day. Get ready to get wet on the last day!

Save The Date: Heather Marr has offered MARRVILLE for us to gather, celebrate, congratulate, say “good-bye, see ya soon, see ya around!” Mark your calendar now for Thursday, June 17 at 3pm. More info will follow soon.

Important Updated Covid-19 Information: The most pressing piece of information related to this guidance is that now students, staff, and families will not need to wear masks while they are outside. This includes before and after school, recess, and outdoor PE or other activities. Distancing requirements are still in place. That said, student and staff choice around this is important and I will be making an announcement during the first 5 minutes of Advisory regarding this messaging. In a nutshell, anyone may continue to wear a mask during this time for any reason. Their reasons are personal and they need not share with others. Please make this clear in your classroom and the norm as we move into this new phase.

Testing Continues in Advisory: Several of our students will be continuing their testing work during advisory. Please allow others to read or work on Delta math during this time quietly. As a reminder:

  • Testing Administration can be found HERE
  • Opt-out List can be found HERE
  • Current Testing Progress can be found HERE: This will show you who still needs to test and what test needs to be given. I will update this throughout the week. Note for 8th grade: ALL students should take the science test. We have not had any opt-outs for this as the process is different.

Lunch QR Code: I know it must be annoying to hear all the time but our students (especially those who have 2nd lunch) are not completing the QR CODE sign in. This may be because they have the wrong one, use an old one that they have on their iPad already, are forgetting, or not clicking submit. Please help Debbie and Amy have accurate numbers by making sure that students complete this each morning.

Canvas End of the Year Planning: Please look at the Weekly Tech Update for this week or this Canvas end of the year document to know how to preserve your Canvas course content for next year. Reach out to Dan, Mandy, or Jane W if you have questions.

End of Year Planning & Awards: Please add to the Award link regarding the end of the year award nominations as well as the tab for staff awards. We will talk about this a bit this Wednesday. Please plan to meet in my Webex room this Wednesday at 2:30 for a brief conversation regarding the end of the year planning before teams work together. In addition to talking with your team about the vertical alignment conversations you had, please plan on discussing the last day of school activities. This day is the only day I anticipate looking different than other days that week.

From HR regarding Personal Days (now until end of year): We are having an extremely hard time filling all substitute requests.  In addition to not allowing personal days when more than 5% of the teaching staff is already scheduled to be out within a building, moving forward we will not be approving any more personal days unless a substitute can be found.  If we have already approved a personal day, then we will honor that decision.  Moving forward, however, if an employee, either classified or certified, asks for a personal day, we need to know that positions will be covered before okaying the request.  As a reminder, we’ve made special agreements this year with both associations that employees will be paid for unused personal days.

PE/Health teachers: There may be a PE opening at one of our Bend-area elementary schools beginning next fall. If you are interested in the possibility of teaching PE at the elementary level, please let me know by May 28.

From Chad in IT: Middle School staff will be asked to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on Monday, May 31st. This communication will come from Chad in IT. Once you hear from Chad, please give it a try. If you have difficulty along the way, don’t hesitate to reach out to our tech/Canvas crew for help. The deadline for setting up MFA will be Monday, July 26th.

SPARKS Summer Learning: If ANY teacher is interested in earning $5500 for 12 days of instruction this summer, please contact Wendy McCullough. She has recently re-opened the postings and people are encouraged to reach out if they are interested.

Trauma-Informed Engagement Practices: Here is a great summer learning flyer about an interesting training you may be interested in.

New Secondary Science TOSA position: This was posted this week. If you are interested, please connect with Ryan or I.

Final Sparrow Fundraiser: LET’S GO BIG before we go home for summer break! Beginning this Monday, May 24 we will begin a friendly fundraiser for Autumn between 6th, 7th, 8th grades and PCMS staff members. Whichever team collects the most cash for Autumn will participate in water blasting staff OR water blasting students on the last day of school. Click here for additional information!

Suspicious Emails: BLS IT Security Team has added a “Phish Alert Button” (PAB) to Outlook. See below graphic. Depending on the version of Outlook you’re using, you can find the PAB either in the “…” menu while viewing a message or in the Outlook ribbon/toolbar. Please use this button to report all suspicious emails (phishing, fraud, malware, etc.) to BLS IT Security Team.

Summit HS Basketball Score Clock Opportunity: Contact Summit’s AD, Mike Carpenter if you are interested in earning a few extra bucks at home games. The pay is $35/40 per game and most games start at 5:30 or 7:00. Contact Summit’s AD, Mike Carpenter at (541) 355-4102 or [email protected] for more info.

May 14, 2021

Hi everyone! Lots of little TO DO items this week.

Wednesday Clarification:

  • We will not have a staff meeting on Wednesday but will be connecting that afternoon with vertical teams. Please refer to my previous e-mail for webex room hosts. 2:30-3:10.
  • ALL STAFF must be on campus from 8-4 unless it is during your “duty free” prep or lunch or you have made other calendar plans with me. Anyone should be able to connect easily with any staff member in person during this day.
  • Wednesday is primarily a day for students to receive support who are struggling. Please do not grade anything or attach points to any assignments on this day. Students can have work that they can engage in or is assigned as “homework” on Tuesday night to be done when they return but please keep in mind that nothing should be done this day that is another opportunity for students who are behind to become further behind.
  • I will be available in webex on Monday morning at 8:30 for any clarification folks need.

End of Year Awards: Please add your nominations for end of year awards to THIS DOCUMENT. These are due by Friday next week. Then we will narrow the list and send off for awards.

Curriculum Orders:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JW5ZEEldaYFCeURx4gzsrn0f0gPLPuTdbwephS-D2u0/edit?usp=sharing

Please check the curriculum order for your department on the spreadsheet. It includes last year’s order as well as the items your department put on for next year. We will remove all items from last year’s order prior to placing next year’s order but want to be sure that there is nothing that needs to be re-ordered. SPEND SPEND SPEND! Please update the spreadsheet by Wednesday, May 12.

June 9th Athletics: Brooke will be reaching out to everyone for support on June 9th as we will be hosting wrestling events and a VB jamboree. We will need a lot of help so if you are able and can put it on your calendar, please send her or Christina an e-mail.

Masking Guidelines: In her most recent guidance, Gov. Brown said that for schools, we will continue to follow current RSSL guidance regarding social distancing and mask-wearing for the remainder of this school year (see end of third paragraph). In other words, no changes for us (as of now anyway!) in how we do school this spring.

School Counseling: Our district has identified a need for more counselors (and more diverse) counselors in our district. Are you interested in this career? If so, Click HERE to complete a short survey.

End of the Year Evaluations: I will be sending out a link for evals if you are on the cycle this year. Additionally, if you are and have not done your self-reflection please do so.

Lunch Reminder: Please remember to greet your students at the door prior to leaving for lunch. This is an opportunity to remind them of their seating assignments and to give any other behavioral reminders that may be needed to ensure that we are able to maintain our contact tracing via seat assignments.

District Shredding: Remainder of the year reminder…if you have documents that need “bulk” shredding at the district, please box if up, tape for security, label it “BLS Shredding”  and bring box to office OR you can bring docs to Deb or Christina and we will put your items in our shredding box.

Schedule Update: HERE is the information you will need regarding the updated Wednesday schedule. Due to this time of year, there will likely be a need for a brief staff meeting. I will do my best to keep it short and sweet. To help with this, please make sure to read this blog each week and ask questions along the way.

Please update the spreadsheet by Wednesday, May 12.

Lunch Reminder: Please remember to greet your students at the door prior to leaving for lunch. This is an opportunity to remind them of their seating assignments and to give any other behavioral reminders that may be needed to ensure that we are able to maintain our contact tracing via seat assignments.

Testing Reminders: This week we will begin testing. Please refer to the Advisory State Testing Outline for all of your questions that may arise regarding testing. Advisory slides are set up to support you. Monday morning is NOT the time to start looking at this because it will take some time. Remember, Monday will be used for practice testing. Here are some other things to know:

  • If you have trouble the day of the test, please call 7804 and Christina will radio Ryan or I to support you.
  • You must ensure a safe testing environment for your classroom as well as the state testing cards that Renee put in your boxes. This has SSIDs and names which cannot be out of your control.
  • Amy, Kellie, Andy, and Sarah have provided you with accommodations information for all of your students this year. Please be sure to have a plan for these students during the session if they have accommodations.
  • Here is the list of students who have OPTED OUT. This will change along the way. If you have one of these students, they should be reading or doing Delta Math during testing time.
  • All students should use headphones. If you need some, please contact the office although most students should have them as part of Delta Math.
  • If you have a student who is currently in quarantine, they can access a practice test via the state testing site if they wish. They will begin testing upon returning to class.
  • Notify Ryan or I immediately regarding a potential test impropriety.

National Board Certification: Are you interested in becoming a National Board Certified Teacher? If so, HERE is an informational letter.

Hot Weather- Doors and Fans: Fans can only be used if they are pulling fresh air in from the outside (stationed by a window or exterior door) not if they are only circulating existing air in the classroom (therefore, ceiling fans should not be used). Any exterior classroom door that is within the fenced area of a school can be opened.  Exterior doors not within a fenced area can be opened but must be closely supervised (ie. closed when no adult is monitoring it).

There are not enough words to express how much it means to me each day to work with all of you. Thank you for your support to our students, our community, and one another. You are appreciated far more than you will ever hear or see and yet you have THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB. You matter- your work matters- your care matters. Thank you❤️❤️❤️❤️

Next Week is Staff Appreciation Week! We will start off with Thump coffee and Sparrow Bakery pastries at 8:15am Monday morn. More throughout the week for sure, including grab and go lunches on Tuesday and Thursday. Due to lack of space throughout the building, we will be utilizing office conference room on those days to enter one door (from lobby), grab items and exit the door out to to Nest.

State Testing Information: We will begin state testing during Advisory on May 10th. This means that ALL Advisory teachers, SPED teachers, EAs, and Counselors must complete the Test Administrator Trainings (outlined below) by Thursday end-of day on May 6th. We will have time to work on some of this during SIW time on Wednesday as well. The Math and ELA tests have been shortened by about 70% this year and there are no PTs like in the past. Here’s what every Advisory Teacher needs to do:

Award Nominations: Believe it or not, now is the time when we begin to think about who we would like to specifically recognize during our End of Year Award Celebration (format TBD). We have two tabs- one for PCMS School Awards (Community, Relationship, Identity, and Legacy) and another tab for other types of Awards that classrooms would like to give out. Please add your nominations to the form by Friday of next week (at least for the PCMS-SCHOOL AWARDS) so we can do a second round of selection. Remember, this is an opportunity to spread the wealth in recognition so think about those who stand out that might not otherwise have much recognition. Feel free to change anything on the Staff Award tab that you’d like.

Update on Summer School: Below is an update/adjustment regarding pay for both classified and certified employees who work in our district summer learning program. If you are interested AT ALL, please apply.

  • Certified (teachers and student services/deans) will get a stipend of $5500 for 3 weeks of summer school and 3 days of training.  This is 120 hours of expected work.
  • Classified will get a $3500 stipend for 3 weeks of summer school and 2 days of training.  This is 112 hours of expected work.
  • Classified hired in the afternoon will work half days for $1750.
  • HR has edited the current job postings to include the new stipend.  Postings will be up for another 10 days.

BLPO in the Summer: FYI that MS students will be able to take MS-level BLPO classes free of charge to the family this summer. This will be another option for students to participate in summer learning. It is important to note that any courses taken through BLPO are self-paced and are not connected to a teacher (they are fully asynchronous). Because of this, this option is not ideal for students who are behind or struggling academically, but better suited for those who missed instruction (due to COVID) and are self-motivated and able to navigate their learning independently.

Athletic Staffing: We could really use some help for our upcoming X-Country race and our football game(s) next week. If you are willing to support your Golden Eagles for an hour after school, please reach out to Jane Ward and Brooke Walton so we know who to call on. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

8th Grade Teachers: Who are our current 8th graders who would benefit from Base Camp (2 weeks in Aug) as an orientation to high school? These 8th graders may not have lagging academic skills, but instead may be showing more concern with anxiety, stress about entering high school, lagging social skills etc. We need to get a list to the coordinator in the next couple of weeks so please start compiling a list HERE.

Canvas Guidelines:  This document outlines the key to-do’s regarding the Canvas LMS system.  It is very important that everyone continue the 3 minimum requirements of posting weekly agendascreating assignments and providing feedback in Canvas.  It is also very important that we continue to regularly sync Canvas and Synergy (see Dan if strangeness occurs here).  Updated information in both Canvas and Synergy not only allows access for our students who are quarantined at home, but also allows your counselors and staff to accurately track and monitor student progress.

Students Out of Class: Please refer to Ryan’s guidance regarding students in the hallways or out of class. In a nutshell, restroom is basically the only reason anyone would be out without an escort. If you need help with a student or need something, please call 7804.

Staff Timesheets & Support: As discussed during staff meeting (if you missed it see the notes below) there is an opportunity for you to be paid for your time creating a matrix to support students while they are away for those specific times that your lesson cannot be easily transferrable to Canvas. Please come and see me regarding this if you are interested.

Thank you to Torie, Renee, and Sarah D. who will be supporting our students (ELA & ScienceT-F from 9-10 and Math T&R from 9-10) to have extra support if they are out of school in quarantine or for any other reason!

Celebration! Did you know that you can become a Certified National Geographic Educator? Our very own Heather Marr just completed this certification through work she did with our students this year. Ask her for more details. Congratulations!

Staff Trivia Game: The WEB News Team has proposed a PCMS Staff Trivia segment in the WEB newsletter that goes out every Golden Week. For those who wish to participate, please click on this link and answer four questions. The WEB Team greatly appreciates it!

Bend Senior High School Life Skills Annual Hanging Flower Basket Sale:  It takes place Wednesday, May 5 from 4-6pm while supplies last.  The sale will be a at the BHS campus greenhouse located on the south side of campus on Alden Avenue (730 NE Alden Ave.) between the Technology building and the baseball field. Approach the green house on Alden Avenue from 6th Street. Patrons will need to stay in their cars at all times as we will be adhering to social distancing guidelines. Examples of each variety of baskets will be on tables you can view from your car. Cost per basket is $25 this year, and we will be collecting payment at the point of sale only.  They are accepting cash, a credit card, or a check made out to Bend High School Life Skills. It is important to note that we will NOT be taking any orders prior to the sale.  Also, there are limited quantities and varieties available, and there will be a limit of six baskets per family.

April 23, 2021

Preparing for COVID-19 Cases and Quarantine: This week marked our first foray into responding to a positive COVID-19 case at school. The good news is, our system of tracing works and allowed us to quarantine students relatively easily as a result. Below are some reminders to continue to help us be as prepared as possible.

  • Seating Charts: If you haven’t gotten seating charts for your classes to Ryan, please do so as soon as possible. It is likely that we will receive notification regarding COVID-19 situations after hours and will need to contact trace as soon as possible. Please update these frequently and pay special attention to any activity that is longer than 15 minutes that may require students to be closer than typical. All of this information will be needed when the time comes.
  • Academic Learning Expectations: All students must be able to engage in a continued progression of learning if or when they must quarantine. This is why the daily updating and use of Canvas will continue to be critical and is a district-wide expectation.
    • What is required? Access to continued learning while at home. Some assignments, tools, and platforms lend themselves easily to be linked to Canvas for daily lessons but sometimes there are certain things that cannot be replicated in an online format. When this is the case, teachers will need to have linked a matrix of options for students to engage in if they are learning at home during quarantine. This may look similar to the types of things that you already had as part of emergency sub plans, etc.
    • How can I do this? If you have access to something like this already, please make sure to direct students here if a daily assignment otherwise cannot be accessed. If you need to spend time amassing some tools that would fit this need, you will be able to be time-sheeted for this planning time. Please contact me if you believe that you fall in the latter category.
    • What can’t happen: Students cannot be excused from work and given nothing to do. Students must be able to access ongoing learning during each day they are away.
  • Safety Precautions: Ongoing reminders, modeling, hand hygiene, and mask-wearing all remain critical for our school and community. If you have a student who you have given multiple reminders to and it seems they may need extra support to comply with protocols, please let Ryan or I know.
  • Above All: When a quarantine period takes place, families will likely be upset/worried/nervous about their child’s health AND missing school. During this time, we can support them best by letting them know we CARE about their well-being and will support them through this challenging time. Please make sure that your contact information is clearly available and students can coordinate supports from you using e-mail if or when they are stumped.

State Testing: We will be having state testing in May and all teachers will need to be trained prior to beginning testing. We will do this training as part of an upcoming SIW. At this time, please check with Amy and Kellie regarding any of your Advisory students who may need accommodations during testing so you are ready to best support them when the time comes.

Synergy Error: There is a problem with quarter 3 grades not showing up in quarter 4 in Synergy.  Laura Clark is aware of this, and they are trying to resolve the issue.  Please hold off on syncing your grades until they know what the problem is.

SPARKS Summer Learning Program: This summer learning option will be available for a limited number of students during three weeks in August. Please refer to the information HERE for information related to what you could expect, who should apply, and what the team is looking for regarding staff. PCMS will be a host site.

Battery Recycling Containers The PCMS Green Team has placed battery recycling containers in each hall for you to deposit your used batteries. Please refer to this map to see locations of the containers.

District COVID-19 Dashboard: Bend-La Pine Schools is publishing data on reported positive or presumptive COVID-19 cases who have a connection to our schools, staff or students. This page has several other links regarding COVID-19 information as well.

April 16, 2021

Thank you everyone for a fantastic week back! The protocols are going well and our students are doing an amazing job. Thank you for your continued reminders. There continue to be some little bugs to work out but so far, so good. Keep up the great work! If you have ideas for change or need help as we start Quarter 4, please let Ryan or I know.

C19 Designation: Some of you saw the “C19” designation in Synergy and asked if that meant a student who had been in your class had tested positive for COVID, so I wanted to share some information around our safety protocols with everyone in an attempt to minimize confusion. This attendance code is used for a variety of purposes, including positive results, and will not be the means by which you are notified that one of your students has a confirmed positive case of COVID. If a student shows up in Synergy with the C19 designation and you have questions about specifics, please reach out to Anita or Ryan and know that there are limits around what we can share. As we welcome back a greater number of students into the building, it is likely the C19 attendance code will appear more frequently.

In the event of a positive COVID-19 test result for a student or staff member, Lisa will send out an email to all staff and all families that indicates that the last date the student/staff memeber was in the building in addition to sharing some guidance around measures individuals can take to reduce the likelihood of spread and how to deal with the onset of symptoms. If you were in close contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more in a single day), you will receive a separate email informing you of this and directing your next steps.

In order for us to be effective in our contact tracing efforts, any time you have close contact with a student (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more in a single day), you need to fill out this form. Additionally, please send Ryan your seating charts (including lunch) for both Golden and Eagle weeks to assist with any after-hours contact tracing that may need to be done. Please share these with Ryan by Friday, April 23. If you have any questions, please let Ryan know.

End of Year Awards: We aren’t there yet, but it is a good time to start thinking about students who stand out this year for our Community, Relationships, Identity, and Legacy Awards. We will start to do nominations and award creation in May.

Lunch QR Change: We got a new QR code on Thursday and the old one will no longer work. If you try it with students on Monday and it kicks them out, they are using the wrong one and need to refer to the Advisory Slideshows for the most current code. Her is the link: https://forms.gle/akE3MbxiKJMpwUGt9. Again, all students MUST log in by 11:00 each day so Debbie can be ready to go.

Election Guidance: With elections coming up, it is a good idea to review our district expectations. In addition, if elected officials are ever part of a classroom project, presentation, or contact, please be sure to contact Lisa or Ryan.

Visitors in the Building: All visitors remain prohibited in the building until further notice. This includes parent volunteers or speakers. Please use webex options to continue these connections.

April 9, 2021

The gang’s almost all back together!! Monday will likely feel like day 1 of the school year for you as well as our students. It’s a day for excitement and connection and what you spend your time doing on this day will set the stage for the rest of the year. Wear your PCMS swag and please know that you are the right people for this massive job. Our students and families are so lucky to have all of you each day. We’ve got this!!

Links Below: If it’s been a while since you checked out the links below, give them a look. Many have been recently updated along with a few dates you will want to know.

Quarter Grades: If you are someone who gives quarter grades, please make sure that these are complete before you leave for the week. Please see Renee if you need support.

Summer School Opportunities: We are looking for folks who are interested in either being a teacher during summer school in August or anyone who is interested in being a site supervisor/lead teacher. Please see Ryan or I if you are interested. If you already indicated your interest in teaching in the previous form provided, you’re already on the list.

SLGGs: SLGGs are due by this Friday (4/16). Please refer to past staff meeting minutes HERE in order to have the information. If you use mine as a template, please remember that yours should only include the students with whom you work. You are welcome to do other goals too but they must fit the guidelines within the SLGG form. Please ask me if you have questions. I’m happy to help you find what you are looking for.

Conferences: Please refer to information from Christina regarding how to see your conference list. Each conference should last no more than 7 minutes (with a 3 minute buffer in between). Families have received THIS INFORMATION regarding conferences. Please check your list frequently as conference attendance can change on a dime. Teachers must be available in webex during all of the conference times. Dinner will be provided by our awesome PCCO each evening. Please ask Christina if you have any glitches with scheduling that you may need help with.

End of Year Awards: We aren’t there yet, but it is a good time to start thinking about students who stand out this year for our Community, Relationships, Identity, and Legacy Awards. We will start to do nominations and award creation in May.

Lunch QR Change: Ryan will give the most up-to-date information related to lunch and protocols in Monday’s Advisory. The information within the QR code will change to accommodate a different method of lunch option pickup. Students will now be able to indicate their choices when ordering from the cafeteria. Because there will be more options, we will not be able to provide lunches in each wing. Therefore, if students are eating in the Nest, they will pick up their lunch on the landing right above the Nest. If they are eating in the classroom, they will pick up lunches near the elevator close to Dan’s room.

Advisory: Please remember to use the provided Advisory slideshows to make sure that we are all covering the same contact and we ensure reading and math practice. The modeling you provide regarding reading and student monitoring will make this practice consistent and successful. Students may need reminders to bring headphones and books but by Tuesday, students should be prepared each day. Additionally, Anja and Sarah C. may be pulling students from Advisory for individual support as necessary.

Language, Culture and Identity: Click HERE for messages from our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion director.

Unused Personal Leave Payout: Staff is able to have unused personal leave paid out. First, unused personal leave will be rolled to next year to the maximum allowed and then unused personal leave that the employee still has will be sold back this year and will be in final paycheck. The certified rate will be the daily sub rate of $189.36 and can be paid in half and full day increments. Classified rate is $20 per hour and can be paid in one hour increments.  Your balances can be found on your latest paystub. If you prefer to have all unused leave paid, then you need to email Payroll by May  7, 2021. at [email protected].

Celebrations:

April 5, 2021

Good morning everyone! I hope that you had a wonderful sunny weekend and were able to spend most of it outside.

This week we will be meeting on Wednesday at 9 in my webex to give updates regarding what you can expect next week upon our move to All-In. There are several bullets listed below that outline much of what we will discuss. Additionally, there are some scheduling updates and conference updates that I want you to know about today.

Scheduling and Class Size Updates: With MS and HS calendars changing slightly, this has affected our Music teachers drastically. As you all know, the success of a HS music course is somewhat predicated on a successful experience in MS. Therefore, in order to continue to allow our students to participate in these courses AND have our teachers teach our students, we have had to slightly change more than 60 student schedules. Obviously at this time of year, this is no small feat and Renee and Christina worked really hard last week to make these changes possible.

While making these changes, we wanted to make sure that students had as many of the same teachers as possible and in most situations we were able to do this. That said, there were some that will have a couple of new teachers and we will communicate with families regarding these changes. This means that in most cases, your class numbers may change slightly from period to period but you will have as many of the same students as you have already has. Where class sizes increased to maximums, we went back and did a second round of balancing and trouble-shooting to try to alleviate number stress where it was possible. We created a new math class to relieve some class pressure as well. All in all, 30 class periods increased in size and 31 decreased in size.

These changes will go into effect on April 12th. If you have questions about the changes specific to you, please connect with me. Please know that we have literally scraped the bottom of the barrel to find options for large sizes and continue to be thoughtful as we place new students into our existing and strained schedule.

Conference Information: Please complete your Take Home Conference with all of your class periods this Thursday and Friday. I will send a conference letter home on Thursday morning to outline our plan for conferences. Families and students will be instructed to go over the Take Home Conference and Reflection, watch classroom/teach videos to clarify any information, and then if they believe they need a virtual conference, they can sign up for this when the site goes live on Saturday morning. We will ask that families make sure to bring their child with them during conferences. This means that teacher videos are due by tomorrow afternoon. Please see Ryan with any questions.

We will begin working on scheduling Invite Only Conferences today. We will take the names that you indicated, contact families, ask for them to confirm with our office, and then we will take off that space within your allotted conference times. If you do not have many Invite Onlys, all of these times will be open for families to sign up for a conference with you. As a reminder, we will have conferences On Wednesday from 8-8:45 and then from 3:15-7:30, and Thursday from 4:45-7:45. If you are part time or teach a quarter class, please connect with Lisa and Renee to determine scheduling.

Classroom measurement: There have been some questions about how two students can fit in a double desk (which are 54 inches wide). There is enough space for two students to share one double desk, provided they are sitting so that each student has a knee on each side of the desk’s leg. Sitting in this way will help us maintain the required three feet of separation, a point that is measured from center point-to-center point in students, and NOT from where one body stops and another begins. Ryan is happy to come talk with you about the specifics of your classroom if you’d like, just let him know.

Other Information:

  • Please use this form to indicate if you need anything for your classroom set up. If you have a lot of single desks, please let us know this too as we may need to take some to support other classroom layouts. Do NOT assume that we know what your needs are. Please communicate with us so the custodial team can support you best.
  • Please use this guide for Canvas moving forward. See Mandy or Dan with questions. CANVAS EXPECTATIONS
  • The Advisory team will lay out what Advisory will look like during Wednesday’s meeting. Each Advisory day will include a check-in/lesson as well as mandatory and designated time for reading and mathematics practice.
  • Monday is our first ALL-IN DAY!! Please wear your spirit gear that day and be in the halls to help with 6 ft reminding, etc.
  • We WILL be having state testing this year. I will describe this more on Wednesday.
