We are so excited to see everyone in person this week! Please read below to be the most prepared for our transition. Remember, although there is no such thing as a zero risk activity, we have the best likelihood for success and keeping our schools safely open when everyone knows the protocols and follows them consistently. Staying up-to-date on information from PCMS each week by reading the News from the Nest will help as we make our way back into our building together. Thanks for reading!
Go Golden Eagles!
Orientation Week Begins!: We can’t wait to see you! This week we will see 6th graders A-K on Monday, 6th graders L-Z on Tuesday, 7th and 8th graders L-Z on Wednesday, and 7th and 8th graders A-K on Thursday. Bus routes will pick up on the regular schedule and the day will end at 1 pm. If you are a bus rider on Wednesday, the bus will take you home from PCMS a bit later at 2 pm.
We will NOT be eating lunch at PCMS during Orientation days as they are so short; however, students can order a lunch and bring it home that day if they would like. All food from Nutrition Services is free this year. If you child has an allergy and needs a different option, they must bring a doctor’s note that we will keep on file.
Students should plan to wear their mask to school and bring their backpack with charged iPad and something to write with to Orientation. Charging is extra important this year as we will be less able to share chargers, etc. with students. Additionally, students should plan to wear warm clothing because the classroom windows will remain open. They can also bring a reusable water bottle (preferably with a built in straw) to use throughout the day. Having a straw minimizes the amount of mask movement that will occur as they hydrate. Once Hybrid Instruction begins on Feb. 8, students should plan to bring earbuds as well as a notebook/paper to school as well.
Cellphones will remain OFF and AWAY during the day IN BACKPACKS this year. Cellphone use during the day will not be permitted. If you have an urgent message, please contact the front office. If you plan to pick up your child at a time other than typical release time, please arrange this ahead of time with our Attendance Office. We will have less ability to go into classes throughout the day to get students and we can have them ready if we are prepared. Families are also discouraged from bringing items to the office to be dropped off. Any transfer of materials requires sanitization and another disruption to the classroom. If students forgot something, we will simply try again another day.
Doors to the school will open at 10:35 each day to students. Skateboards, scooters, and bikes will all need to be locked up outside this year. Yes, they make locks for skateboards ;). Students will enter through the Right Doors if they ride the bus and the Central Doors if they are being dropped off to maximize social distancing. Remember parents: please pull forward👍. Students will go directly to Advisory where their teacher will greet them for the day. Students will be trained on protocols and then take a tour to Periods 1-3 during Orientation. Don’t worry. Many staff members will be around to direct you to your classroom- simply know your Advisory teacher’s name and we will help you on your way.
Recorded Student & Family Hybrid Instruction Webex with Principal: If you were unable to make it to one of the eight webex meetings last week, you can access a recording of one HERE. This recording is 54 minutes long. In it you will find answers to what hybrid instruction will look like at PCMS and all the things that you should consider as we transition.
PCMS Campus Map (Updated 2/2021): We made a few changes to our campus map. Here is the updated version as of 2/8/2021.
Mask Guidelines: All individuals on PCMS property MUST wear a mask. Masking guidelines have changed and we will no longer be allowing gaiters, buffs and bandanas as substitutes for cloth/disposable masks that fit snugly around the mouth and nose. Buffs/gaiters placed OVER a mask that adheres to our requirements are permissible. Masks with valves or otherwise vent air are never acceptable. Mask Do’s pdf poster
What Lunch Do I Have? Students can use THIS LIST to determine which lunch they will have during which week. All lunches will happen in the 1st period classroom (Golden Week) or the 5th period classroom (Eagle Week). If a student has 1st lunch, they will arrive at 1st/5th period at 12:05. They will eat until 12:20 when they will transition to outside. At 12:40 they will transition back to the classroom and begin 1st/5th period lesson at 12:45. If a student has 2nd lunch, they will arrive at 1st/5th period at 12:05. They will begin the lesson. At 1:15 students begin lunch. At 1:30, they will transition outside until 1:45 when they come back to the classroom to pick up their materials and transition to Period 2/6. Period 2/6 begins at 1:55.
Positive Case Contact Information: Please see the attached letters regarding what you might expect when or if there is a positive case of COVID at PCMS. As a reminder, HIPPA regulations require confidentiality in regard to sharing individual names and other information with anyone other than health officials.
Welcome Back to School Video: We are requiring all families review an informational video for all Bend-La Pine Schools about health and safety related procedures that will need to be followed when students return to in-person learning. Targeted toward middle school and high school students.
Staff Changes, etc.: Mrs. Dziurzynski and Mrs. Charnay will not be at PCMS for the remainder of the school year. This means that students with these teachers will have a substitute for a time until a more long-term replacement is in place. Mrs. Jacot’s 1st period class will have a substitute (Mr. Seed- you know him already:) for the 1st 12 weeks due to High School schedules overlapping with the middle school. Mr. Rushton and Mrs. Seed will continue to teach our Band and Orchestra students but they will be screen-casting into the classroom at PCMS while they are physically at Cascade. Students at PCMS will have an instructor in the classroom but the teacher of record will remain the experts (Rushton/Seed).
Staff Openings: We are looking for some great people to join our team! Right now there are openings for a Counseling Secretary/Registrar, Football Assistant Coach, and an Instructional Educational Assistant. It is likely that this week we will have another posting for a Track Coach as well. If you are interested, we’d love to have you (or someone you know) apply. Jobs for PCMS can be found on the District Webpage.
Student/Staff School Photos Days & Yearbook Purchase: Mark your calendar! Dorian Studios, our new vendor, has confirmed Thursday, Feb. 25 and Friday, Feb. 26 as days to capture photos of our students (and staff). Detailed information will be coming soon.
