Principal’s Hello
Dear Golden Eagle Families,
I hope you had a great week! We’re getting close to spring break, and the kids are letting us know! Haha!
This was an exciting week for our 8th graders, as they got to visit their high schools for next year. This was also an exciting week for our 6th and 7th graders, who set SMART goals for their mile times in PE. Our fastest mile time this week was 5:40. Not bad for a middle schooler.
What’s funny to me is that our students LOVE running in the crowded halls. Of course we tell them to stop, to please be safe and walk. Then, in PE, when we ask them to run, they moan and groan! What the heck?! Some mysteries may never be solved.
Enjoy the weekend.
Sean
From Instructional Technology
Scott McDonald and Karen Rush are forming an Instructional Technology Stakeholder group comprised of teachers, parents, students, administrators, and community members. We have great representation from district staff and community members, but are hoping to have parents from across the district and grade levels join the group.
We have shared this information in the Family Spotlight but would love to see more applications!

8th Grade STEM Fair
- Date: Thursday, March 20th
- Time: 6:00 PM-7:30 PM (drop in when it is convenient)
- Where: PCMS, 8th Grade Hall upstairs
Eighth grade students are invited to share their culminating science or engineering project with PCMS students and family members. Ms. Crabtree, Ms. Kraybill, and Mr. Segesta have collaborated to create this event. Our hope is that this fair brings an opportunity for students to be enthusiastic about learning, and for them to share their work with the community, and to strengthen the STEM presence in Bend.
PCMS Robotics | Great Year of Growth!
We had several 6th graders involved in our Lego Robotics Club this fall. Next year’s goal is to have a competition ready team with our rising 6th graders. Our rookie 7/8 grade First Tech Challenge team (think bigger/non-lego robots) has just wrapped up a successful first season. This hard-working group of kids has been meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school since the fall. They placed high enough in a regional competition that they qualified for a second competition at the end of February. This far exceeded expectations for a rookie team and now we’ve got the fire to try and qualify for the State Tournament next year!
Competition registrations and robot parts are not cheap. Thank you to our inaugural corporate sponsor – Integrated Eye Care! If you have connections to a local business that may be interested in sponsoring our teams and having their logo prominently displayed on next year’s robot(s), please reach out to Carey Kraybill. [email protected]
Along with funding, these programs can’t run without the assistance of fabulous adult coaches/mentors. Shout out to our 24-25 6th Grade FLL Coach – Janae DeRose, our 7/8th grade Coaches/Mentors – Jen Acorn, Rich Fox, Rich Nasser and Catherine Thompson and several students from the Summit HS robotics program. If you’re interested in volunteering with this fun program, or you know someone with mechanical, programming, graphics, fundraising experience and/or enthusiasm for nerding-out and learning about robots please reach out to Carey Kraybill at [email protected].
