As we move closer to coming back to the building, the next two weeks will be filled with planning by teachers while students wrap up projects, assignments, and tasks from first semester. Students continue to have assignments within Canvas all next week and teachers will be giving feedback periodically along the way. On February 5th, teachers will be working on report cards. DO NOT WAIT to get assignments completed. Please submit any outstanding assignments by Friday 1/29 if possible and e-mail your teacher to make sure that they know that your assignment was submitted.
I know that everyone has a multitude of questions and wonderings related to our HYBRID transition. Please mark your calendars to attend one of several informational sessions that I will be giving next week. See below for more information. Thank you in advance for your attention to the information in the notifications below (and in past News from the Nest posts). When or if you need support along the way, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Go Golden Eagles!
Welcome Back to School Video
We are requiring all families review an informational video for all Bend-La Pine Schools about health and safety related procedures that will need to be followed when students return to in-person learning. Targeted toward middle school and high school students.
Students Moving to Bend La-Pine Online Program Second Semester
All students participating in the Bend-La Pine Online Program for semester 2 of the 2020-21 school year will need to request enrollment through Bend-La Pine Online. The survey you filled out demonstrated your interest for our planning purposes; however it DID NOT complete or begin your registration. Please use the links above to complete this. If you have trouble, you can contact Carey Kraybill at [email protected].
Important iPad Information
During this time at home, some of you have opted to use computers other than your school iPad. If you have any iPad issues that prevent you from using your school iPad, please contact Marni Hanna ASAP and we can resolve the issues this week, while you do not have WebEx’s with your teachers. If you have any cracks in the glass at all, the iPad needs to be replaced. Marni Hanna 541-355-7834 or [email protected]. We can also troubleshoot issues via webex: https://bls.webex.com/meet/marni.hanna
How can we get our family ready for the change to school? What does a Golden Eagle need to know?
-
- FAMILY/STUDENT INFORMATION SESSIONS NEST WEEK: Please plan on coming to ONE information session next week. It is our hope that all Golden Eagles and families attend. During this time, we will share all the information you might need to know as you come back to school. This is not a forum for discussing your pleasure or displeasure with the move to hybrid but to hear information and clarify common questions. All sessions will be in my webex room: https://bls.webex.com/meet/lisa.birk
- Monday 1/25 @ 5 pm
- Tuesday 1/26 @ 5 pm
- Wednesday 1/27 @ 9 am
- Wednesday 1/27 @ 11 am

- Thursday 1/28 @ 9 am
- Thursday 1/28 @ 5 pm
- Friday 1/29 @ 9 am
- Morning Drop Off: If you plan to drop your child off during the week, please remember that students can come into the building beginning at 10:35. Class will begin at 10:50. Morning drop-off can be a stressful time so please plan ahead. At PCMS like many schools, there is a single entry and exit for cars during this time. HERE is a map to help. Please drive carefully, pull as far forward as possible before dropping off, and smile:) We will get through this together.
- Practice: Practice hand washing, discuss what it means to be 6 feet apart from others, and practice wearing masks and how to take them on and off properly. All individuals within a school building must wear masks at all times and we just learned that BUFFS, BANDANAS, or GAITERS ARE NOT ALLOWED. Help your student understand the reasons that masks support the safety and welfare of them and others around them.
- Weekly Schedule: Know the schedule and make a plan for asynchronous days. In the hybrid model, students will be at home for three days each week. For two of these days, students will not be participating in webex and will be expected to complete assignments and learning completely independently. Set students up for success with the use of proper work areas as well as materials like timers in order to keep them on track.
- Daily Schedule: Students may be eager to plan their route between classes before coming to school. They can do this by going into Student View and choosing their Quarter 3 schedule. Once they see their classes, they can locate the room number and teacher name and use the MAP to make a plan.
- Mitigate: As a family, please mitigate any opportunity for the virus to be spread or brought into the school by minimizing group sizes and wearing masks while in the community. If you leave the state for travel, it is advised that students and family members quarantine for 10 days as a precaution.
- Prepare for disruption: As the OHA says, there is no such thing as a zero risk activity. We will be operating with the utmost adherence to safety guidelines but it is a very real possibility that your student could be affected by the virus or someone who has had contact with them. In these events, students will need to leave the building and we will not have areas that will be supervised or will be safe for students to wait for extended periods of time. Have a plan in place for who will be picking up your child in the event that they need to return home with limited notice.
- Communicate: Much of the planning within our school has to do with numbers of students in any given class and space at any given time. If you are considering making a change with your school delivery, please let our counselors know as soon as possible.
