Happy Monday Golden Eagles and families!
This week, we will be going to 4 new classes (Periods 4- 7). If you are feeling like you are unsure of where to go, please remember that as long as you know your teacher’s name, we can get you to the right place! Lots of teachers will be around in the halls just waiting to help you! This also means that you will need to re-examine lunch. During these weeks, lunch will be connected to Period 5. As you order lunch, you can find that teacher’s name on the form and it will be delivered to the hall like it was last week. If you have any questions, please ask!
New Staff: We are so excited to welcome new staff members to our team!
- Jake Miles will be teaching 8th grade math for the remainder of the year. He is so excited to meet all of the students and begin to get in the groove of classroom practices with everyone.
- Renee McCoy will be our new Registrar and will begin on March 1st. Renee has been in the district for some time and some of you may remember her from her time at High Lakes several years ago.
- Sara Compton will be supporting students all around the school, in the music classrooms, and will begin meeting with students in small groups on asynchronous days in the near future.
- Anja DuBois will also be supporting students in the music room, in the hallways and at lunch, as well as supporting in small groups on asynchronous days.
- Julia Reynolds will be teaching 4th period French. Although students may see her as an art teacher during the day as well, she is excited to get students excited about language.
- Heather Wolford will be teaching our Algebra class for the remainder of the year. Beginning in March, Jake Miles will also join the classroom and together they will be doing some team-teaching as well.
- Brian Broaddus will be coaching 8th grade football. He has been a coach in our district for some time and is looking forward to becoming an Eagle!
- Ashley Wallace will now be an assistant track coach for our season that begins today!
- Jane Ward has just accepted the position of head cross country coach in addition to being the head track coach at PCMS
Still Looking: We are still looking for a head Volleyball coach and we will have an assistant cross country coach position posted very soon. If you know of someone, we’d love to have them join our team!
Area Change Request (ACR) Process: If you are currently on an ACR or are interested in one for the next year, please visit this webpage and submit your forms by March 1st this year. The district is asking that everyone re-submit them this year as our boundaries are changing.
Dress for the Weather: Remember, during lunch, all students will be outside for a portion of the day. Central Oregon weather is famous for changing throughout the day so be prepared by bringing a warm jacket for your time outside!
Observer Accounts: If you want to be the most up-to-date on grades and information that your student sees from teachers, please use this tool to set up your observer account in Canvas. Progress and grades should never be a surprise. Make it a habit of checking this weekly and talking with your student about their progress continually. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact teachers directly.
Asynchronous Days: As you may have started to recognize during the past two weeks, asynchronous days require far more independence than our previous CDL days. This means that you should talk with your student about a schedule for the day. Teachers are putting out information to students via Canvas that must be completed as if they were in person in class. Last week during asynchronous days, several students did not go into Canvas and likely did not complete assignments. Students are responsible for completing all assignments during asynchronous days. They will be graded and also discussed within the classroom.
The information that teachers are sharing and expecting on these days may be easy for some and more difficult for others. If you find that your child is needing more during these days, please reach out directly to the classroom teacher. Ideas for challenge differ based on content, unit, and project so the teacher will have the best ideas related to ways to challenge them along the way.
