February 5, 2021

This has been an absolute awesome week! Thank you all for reading information along the way, watching loooooong videos regarding safety, and helping your students be prepared for this new entry into school. It was so heart-warming to see all of our Golden Eagles!

This week there is less in this update but please feel free to scroll to the one from last week or the week before to get any other questions answered that you might have. Here is some new information for the week:

  • School safety updates:
    • Please talk with your child about social distancing and maintaining 6 feet from their friends while at school. This has proven to be the most difficult piece to get used to as we work with students this week.
    • Masks must fit snugly over the nose and mouth. We have some that students can use but often they do not fit smaller student faces well. Please invest in several masks that will be the best fit for your child. As a reminder- bandanas, buffs, gaiters, or masks with valves are never allowed.
    • This weekend is the Super Bowl. Please be thoughtful as you are planning your day. The only way our schools can stay open is when our public practices all of the measures that are in our schools each day: social distancing, mask wearing, and reducing gathering as much as possible.
  • Schedule Alterations: You should have received a message from Superintendent Nordquist some time today. Due to the number of adults getting vaccinated at the end of next week, Friday will be a day of live Webex for students in cohorts L-Z rather than a day at school. Please follow the Wednesday schedule for classes.
  • Openings at PCMS! We have several openings at PCMS currently. We are looking for a track coach, a football coach, and educational assistant, and a math teacher. If you or someone you know is interested, please send them to the jobs link at BLP Schools.
  • New Golden Eagle Team Members!
    • Margaret Grubb is joining our awesome team at PCMS as a new French teacher for French 1 & 2. Margaret currently teaches languages at Mt. View High School.
    • Anja Du Bois has joined our team as a new Educational Assistant supporting student success. She comes to us from a college teaching level and is so excited to work with our Eagles!
    • Aaron Toso is a father of a PCMS Golden Eagle and is now our new Wrestling coach. He comes with lots of wrestling background from coaching in large programs in Washington.
  • Track Virtual Q & A for Students and Families: Coach Ward will be holding a virtual Q & A session on Tuesday, Feb. 9th at 8:30 am. This is for all PCMS students and families interested in participating in the upcoming track season. Session will be held in Coach Ward’s Webex room at bls.webex.com/meet.jane.ward
  • French, Choir & 8th grade Math Update:
    • Ms. Grubb will be teaching French 1 & 2. Mrs. Durfee will be teaching Period 1 French in the 6th grade wheel next week. We continue to look for someone to teach French during Period 4 on Eagle Weeks. If you have any leads, please send Lisa an e-mail.
    • Choir students at PCMS will have choir webex from 9:10-9:40 on Wednesdays in lieu of the time that is listed for their class period. This allows for Ms. Jacot to meet with them even while she is working with students at the high school.
    • 8th Grade Math students in Mrs. Dziurzynski’s class will have a substitute through Tuesday, February 16. We hope to have this position filled by then. Algebra students who were in Mrs. D’s 5th period class will now have Heather Wolford as their Algebra teacher. They will meet in Mrs. Wolford’s class rather than upstairs.
  • African American History Month: This is not the only time that we want to celebrate the contributions, creativity, cultures, and craft of the Black community but one way you might find to celebrate this month is through the joy of reading. This link has several options to engage in new authors, creators, or ideas with which you may not yet be familiar. It also highlights a very popular Young Adult author Jason Reynolds on February 25th. Reynolds (along with Ibram Kendi) is the author of our summer student reading club book titled Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You.

Thank you all for your hard work to get our students, staff, and community prepared for the transition to Hybrid Learning. It was wonderful to see everyone’s faces again and we look forward to 18 weeks ahead. Be well, social distance, and wear a mask! Have a great weekend.

Go Golden Eagles! -L
