ASIST Training

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a comprehensive, coordinated and integrated suicide intervention training that reflects current best-practice in suicide intervention. There are two upcoming ASIST trainings available:

  • Full ASIST Training – Will take place at Westside Church April 28-29, 8:30 – 4:30 daily. More information and registration can be found here.
  • ASIST TuneUP – Registration is now open for this free 4 hour virtual refresher and recertification workshop. ASIST TuneUP will take place on May 17th, 8:00am to 12:00pm, and can be taken by anyone who completed the full ASIST within the last 3 years. Spring and Summer Internships

Camp Tamarack Outdoor School – High School Volunteers Needed

Camp Tamarack needs high school volunteers to help lead their spring Outdoor School Program. They are looking for students who want to gain experience teaching and working with kids. High school students will spend 2 days at camp, either Monday – Tuesday or Thursday – Friday. Outdoor School sessions will run April 11 – June 9. College credit and volunteer hours available. See flyer.

Important information:

  • College Credit: Is done through COCC and Camp Tamarack, not BLPS.
  • BLP Volunteer Credit: BLPS requires 70 volunteer hours per .5 credit. Students who volunteer for two Tamarack sessions should check with their School to Career or Future Center contact about credit before their volunteer work begins.
  • Volunteer Time: Students who volunteer for one session can receive volunteer hours that may be applied toward volunteer time for credit.
  • BLP School to Career Credit: STC Work Credit is not available for this experience.  
  • BLP Internship Credit: All internships are run through Larry Holeman and Youth Career Connect.  Larry is working with Camp Tamarack and has opportunities for 18+ students to receive a paid position.  Interested students should connect with their STC/Future Center contact, as they will work with Larry to get appointments set up.

Camp Sunrise – Children’s Grief Camp

Camp Sunrise is a free grief camp for children ages 7-14 in Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson Counties that have had a recent loss. Camp will take place Saturday, June 4th from 10:00am – 8:00pm at the Cascade View Retreat Center in Powell Butte. Click for more information and the application.

Four Minute Short Film: All The Little Things

Based on the real experiences of people of colour (PoC) working in the advertising and creative industry, the film is the first piece of work created as part of the studio’s RAW initiative (Racism at Work), which is volunteer-led and aims to promote openness about race and mental wellness through storytelling.

All The Little Things follows a young Black man as he navigates the constant micro-aggressions he faces in his place of work which takes a toll on his mental – and in terms of the film’s narrative, physical – health. Watch the short film.
