Article of the Week:  How to Motivate Students After Spring Break

Important Notes

SNOW DAYS- Leaves for Certified:  Sick days, Personal Day, and FMLA.

All leaves that were taken during the snow days will be returned since the days have been rescheduled.  Leave sheets that have already been sent to payroll will be modified by the payroll staff.

FMLA- employees currently on FMLA will have an opportunity to extend the leave up to four days.  HR has already contacted all employees that are currently on FMLA.  If the employee wants to extend, then a substitute might be needed.  HR has communicated this with office managers.

This will hopefully answer questions for certified staff.  Certified staff with questions are welcome to contact HR.

These rules will not necessarily apply to classified.  All classified staff with leave questions need to contact HR.

ADDED DAYS– Classified Staff: Conference week for Elementary Classified Staff (SRES & LPES): Because you are all on Middle School calendars with SRES & LPES being closed on Friday, you have three options- You can use Personal Leave, Unpaid Leave, or work at Tamarack at the Ed. Center. Please let me know your plan for April 12th by Friday, March 22nd.

Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities:  They have a lot of great programs, and one that stuck out was this small grant program which they say is grossly under-untilied.  That’s code speak for they want to give grants.  If you and your students have an idea…go for it.  Check out the website as there are a lot of resources.  Thanks

Article of the Week:

Understanding Others Feelings: What is empathy and why do we need it?

Important Notes:

School Closure:

NO School Days:
Supervisors, Confidential and Classified Employees with work calendars of 207 days or more:
These employees are expected to report to work as close to regular report
times as possible. If they are unable to report they need to report their
absence on the absentee report form. If eligible, they may use personal
leave or non-contract time to cover the absences, or may be approved to
reschedule the hours missed with their immediate supervisor.
Teachers:
Employees covered by the collective bargaining agreement with the Bend
Education Association do not report to work on weather closure days.
Those employees who may have arrived at work will be excused from duty.
The school day may be rescheduled at the discretion of the Superintendent.
Less than 207 Day Classified Employees:
Classified employees scheduled to work less than 207 days are generally
scheduled to work on days that parallel when students and staff are on the
job, therefore, they DO NOT report to work on weather closure days and
they will not receive a wage deduction. If the employee has already
reported to work and failed to receive the closure notice, they will be
excused for the remainder of the day, but will not receive additional
compensation. Employees shall be required to work scheduled student
contact make-up day(s) with no expectation of additional compensation. *
Delayed Start to School:
All employees are expected to report to work as close to their regular report time
as safely possible. If the program or assignment they normally are responsible for
has been changed due to the late start, their immediate administrative supervisor
may request them to perform other duties to assist the school or department. In
the case of late starts, no employee whose work hours are affected by the delay
will receive a salary deduction and the hours will not be rescheduled at a later
time. Employees that are unable or choose to not report to work on a delayed start
day must report their absence to their supervisor and on the absentee report form.
If eligible, they may use personal leave to cover the absence.

Tam @ Ed Center: Here is an opportunity for students from Deschutes County: “The substance abuse prevention team at Deschutes County Health Services is looking to interview middle school and high school students about prescription drug misuse/abuse. These interviews are part of a federal grant awarded to Deschutes County that aims to investigate prescription drug misuse/abuse in 12-25-year-olds throughout the county. Students will not be asked about personal prescription drug misuse/abuse but rather what their and their peer’s perceptions are around this topic. Further, when the data is analyzed from interviews, any information that would allow others to identify the students, individuals that they may identify in the interview or locations mentioned will be removed. Interviews take around 30-45 minutes and students will receive a Dutch Bros gift card for their time. IF YOU CHAT WITH ON OF OUR STUDENTS, LET ME KNOW IF WE HAVE STUDENTS WHO MAY BE INTERESTED!

Article of the Week:

Students Learn From People They Love

Important Notes:

Tam @ Ed Center- We are inviting Middle School and High School administrators to connect with their students who are attending Tamarack. We hope that they will be attending meetings when appropriate (intake, exit, and any important on-going). We are also encouraging them to walk to their meetings through our space, when they are in the building! Hopefully this will be an opportunity for them to see students, see what we are doing, and generally be comfortable in our space.

Article of the Week:

Here is a great article and pause for reflection!

What can one teacher really do about Trauma?

Important Notes:

Calendar change-

  • Events Calendar will be deleted from the blog.
  • Important dates will be listed at the end of the blog each week for the upcoming week- hopefully that will be more helpful.
  • Case Managers- please make sure you are including all team members (Including the behavior coaches and myself) in your IEP or other meeting requests with Records Clerks. If you do not use RC Central please record all IEP or other meetings in your district Outlook calendar and invite your behavior coach and myself.

The Attendance Area Review Committee has completed its work and passed on their recommendation report to Shay for consideration and final decision. Shay will be making an announcement regarding elementary boundary changes for next year sometime on Jan. 29. Although these changes do not directly affect your students, you may want to become familiar with the process and outcomes of this work as questions arise and to be prepared for a similar process to occur next fall for all MS and HS boundaries (for new HS opening in fall 2021).

Here is some information regarding an essay contest sponsored by the American Legion. It is organized by grade levels and there is a cash prize for winners. Feel free to encourage students to participate as appropriate!

Tamarack @ SRES & LPES: The Center Helmet Give Away- We are fortunate to be working with The Center once again to provide bicycle helmets for any third grader in need. Please be in touch with your building principal to see when they have scheduled their assembly so that our 3rd graders have an opportunity to attend!  It will be a 45 minutes for the assembly. Following the assembly, they will fit and distribute helmets to all students who have returned a slip saying they need a helmet. Fitting is usually completed in 45 minutes.  Assemblies need to take place between April 15 and May 31 and must be scheduled in the morning.
