4.3.2022

This and That:

Staffing:

  • Principals have not received 2022-2023 staffing plans yet, but hope to have more information about staffing for the next school year soon.
  • Our Title 1 Specialist position is currently posted. I will share more about the vision for this position at our staff meeting on Tuesday.
  • Interviews for our daytime custodial position will be on Monday.

Instructional Coach Position Available: BLS will be hiring a 1.0 instructional coach. The position is currently posted and will close on April 10th. You can apply on the BLS website. We have many talented teachers at EME who would make excellent instructional coaches. Here is a link to the job description.

Mark Your Calendar: For the past few years, our certified staff has had a couple of paid days added to their contract that requires professional development outside of your required days. These are usually called days 189 and 190. This coming summer day 189 will be covered by the required foundational skills adoption training. Day 190 will still be up to the teacher to choose. There are MANY professional development options that will fulfill the day 190 requirement. Here is one that several of our staff do each summer. You can attend one day or both, lunch is provided, and all of the topics are relevant to us locally in BLS.

SIW Agenda: SIW this week is “Teacher Prep.”

Staff Meeting: Staffing and other end-of-the-year kinds of topics.

Focus on Excellence and Equity:

TLC Update: Here is a link to this week’s TLC Update. Some items of note: Lots of summer PD opportunities that would count for your day 190; autofill spreadsheets for Forefront (!!!), progress reports for Forefront and Bridges, setting class goals in Harmony, and more!

Digital Citizenship (from Instructional Tech): March is coming to an end, but digital citizenship carries on all year long. Here’s what we’ve been working on… Looking for purposeful options for iPad choice time? Prevent Passive iPad Time has ideas to get you started. We also explore why so many of us get lost in the land of scrolling. Check out Making Screen Time Work For You for maintaining focus. Family communication: Parents Ultimate Guides for everything from TikTok to Fortnite. And of course, something fun (great for everyone but especially looking at you, awesome advisory teachers!) A Digital Citizenship Kahoot!

Reading Foundational Skills Adoption Update:

  • 3/16: the committee reviewed 11 programs and narrowed it to 4
  • 4/6: publishers will present information for 4 programs to the committee
  • 4/6-4/28: staff members on the committee will field test instructional materials in classrooms and provide feedback
  • 4/13-4/26: Opportunities for staff and community feedback
  • 5/10: Presentation to board with the final decision
  • Professional learning dates for summer 2022. K-5 teachers will be required to attend at least 1 day of Foundational Skills training and this will count as Day 189 (district directed).

YouthTruth Data 2022: Between now and the end of the school year, I will be providing short snippets of YouthTruth Data from January 2022. During April, I will be sharing parent data and during May I will be sharing staff data.

This table shows the percentage of families whose average rating across the question in a theme was greater than 3.5 out of 5 overall. Take a good look at this – there is a LOT to celebrate!! We are higher than the “typical Bend School” in almost every category! Next week, I’ll break this data down even more. Let me know if there is specific data you would like to see.

COVID/ Safety Related Information:

EME COVID Anonymous Safety Concern Form: Link here.

Guest Speaker Update: Starting Monday, April 4th, you may have a visitor come to school that fits the “Guest Speaker and Outside Presenter” Administrative Regulation definition. They must sign in to Raptor and wear the nametag. Guests and Visitors must be supervised by school staff at all times and may not work alone with students.

Volunteers Reminder (From BLS Safety Team): If you have a parent signed up to volunteer, they must abide by our volunteer rules, meaning that they need to go through the volunteer application system, upload vaccination card/exception paperwork and be approved. They also need to sign in and wear the Raptor sticker when they are there to volunteer. There have been some parent volunteers that work with the ESD and BLPS, that have come in using their work credentials/name badges and argued about needing to sign in the system. All volunteers need to follow the same protocols. **Note from Kelle – we haven’t had a problem at EME**

To Do:

Spring Conferences: Please provide Cindy with a copy of your conference schedule. Thank you.

T-Shirt Design Contest: Please share this info with your students and families.

Spending Due Date: Student body and general fund accounts need to be spent by April 15th (or ask Kelle for permission to spend it after that date). Please see Chris if you aren’t sure how much money you still have in your account(s).

Parent Volunteers: Before a volunteer can begin, you will need to get official confirmation from Cindy or Chris that the parent has passed the background check. Once they say yes, you will need to add them to the weekly google document letting us know who to expect each day.
