Hello Everyone! In case you don’t know, it’s the second-to-last week before Spring Break. Yes, a week off is coming. Yay!

You will be seeing a new face around our space… Welcome back to Christie McCormick! Christie thought she was lucky enough to get to retire from our team last June. Through the exercise of awesome persuasion tactics, we have convinced her to return for the spring to back up our Canvas team as Dan provides some support at Pacific Crest Middle School. Christie is an amazing educator who has had many experiences throughout Bend-La Pine…from English Teacher, to Online Teacher, to Blended Learning coach and then part of our Canvas team~she’s an inspiring colleague who is very focused on equity in grading, catching students before they fail, and universal design for learning and how it applies to online course design. She’s also always reading something (or several somethings) interesting…so make sure you ask for her recommendations.
Meetings this Wednesday:
- OSSM Team at 7:45 in Amy’s Webex
- Elementary Team at 9:30
- Secondary Team at 10:30
- North Star Team at 12:30
Updates:
Masking becomes strongly recommended
Beginning March 12, Bend-La Pine Schools will continue to strongly recommend masks as a precautionary measure for students and staff, especially for those at high risk of contracting COVID-19, as well as during times when COVID-19 cases are at a high level in the community. The ultimate decision will rest with families and individuals.
Additionally, masks will no longer be required on buses after March 12.
No more quarantine after March 12
Effective March 12, 2022, Oregon will pause contact tracing and quarantine for the general population, including K-12 settings.
A note from Ryan Kelling, our Director of Recruitment and Retention:
Lewis & Clark is offering an added endorsement in Special Education to teachers in the High Desert Regional District at a special, discounted rate. Classes will be held online to make them more practical and accessible to working teachers. This 10-month program begins July 2022 and there is an information session on March 9 from 5:30 – 6:30 that will be held via Zoom. To register for the information session, please click this link.
SpEd teachers continue to be in short supply, and this is a good opportunity for already-endorsed certified staff to add a SpEd endorsement at a discounted rate. The Special Education Generalist endorsement gives candidates an extensive overview of special education as it pertains to students with high- and low-incidence disabilities. You will learn how to assess student knowledge, as well as to identify and implement evidence-based practices to increase the success of students with different academic and behavioral disabilities. Reach out to Ryan if you have questions.
Please see this flyer for more information.
I will be offline next Monday (14th)-Wednesday (16th), so there will probably not be an update. Please let Kevin know if anything needs attention from an administrator during that time. At this point we do not have a plan for any meetings on Wednesday, March 16. Kevin will reach out if that changes. Have a wonderful week~I will look forward to connecting after our Spring Break. I will be checking and responding to emails over the break, so please reach out if you need anything.
