Hello Everyone!
Sorry for the late send. I was feeling a bit under the weather for Sunday and Monday and just couldn’t get this together.
OSSM update-In our meeting last week we spent time talking about Pass grades versus D grades for our high school students. The question was whether a student who started a class last year (P’s were transcribed instead of D’s) was still eligible for a P, or whether they would have a D transcribed. I did some investigation and learned that the “P” has always been an option on parent request instead of a D. If you have a family who requests the P, please make sure that student’s counselor is in the loop, and also make sure you let Chris Ross know when the class is graded out so she can watch for the grade.
Another OSSM Update: As of tomorrow you should start to see a new report. This is our Wednesday afternoon, 2 PM “RPT-238 BLPSO ALL WEEKLY ENROLLMENTS” report. It will be forwarded to you from me by a rule. Please let me know if you do not receive it! Those of you with larger numbers of student enrollments and/or more seniors will find it useful because you can filter by grade level (populated automatically), school and mentor. If you are unsure how to filter a report we can go over it next week when we meet.
Last OSSM Update: This year we will be setting a team goal, and will also each be setting an individual goal. Start to think about the work you do, and what you/we can measure for each of these goals. We will talk about this more at our next meeting.

For our certified staff, we will be starting to work on goal setting before the holidays as part of our SIW Wednesdays. Kevin and I will also be working on evaluations throughout the year. None of this is anything to be stressed about! I’d like to make sure our goals are tied to the work that we are doing, and also where we want to be in the future. Baby steps. You will see in the information below that all staff will write two goals-one based on academics and one based on SEL. Start to think about what you believe are the biggest impacts in these areas in the work you do, what you would like to measure and how you can measure it. We are open to team or group goals in either of these areas.
Evaluations – Here is the agreed-upon evaluation process for the 2021-22 school year. A couple of important notes:
- Both the number of observations and the evaluation domains and standards have been adjusted.
- ODE JUST provided additional guidance on SLGG’s, stating that one should be related to academic progress and one related to SEL.
SLG’s-
- ODE has recently provided additional guidance on SLGG’s (student learning goal) stating that one should be related to academic progress and one related to SEL.
- As we move through our process (Plan-Act-Reflect) with staff to define and identify characteristics of students who are “underperforming”, there will be an opportunitiy for us to have a collaborative SLG goal that we can all use as our yearly SLG. Advisory and morning meetings are another source of data for an SLG and meets the SEL requirement.
- Here is a link to the SLGG form. Don’t rush to get this done! We will set time to do it together. Just review what is there and start to think about it.
Standard Response Protocol-What’s New. Please take 6 minutes to watch this video. We are supposed to watch it during a staff meeting, but I’d rather we spend out time interacting than watching something we can do on our own. Please send me a quick email listing one of the significant changes to the SRP for this year so I can track our compliance with this district mandate. For those of us who have been at the Education Center much of this information might be new. You can find more information and detail on this website. If you have not yet taken the full SRP training, or need a deeper refresher, you can sign up for any of the trainings taking place at the Education Center monthly from the BLS Professional Development Website.
