Hey Team,
Hope y’all had a great weekend! It’s auction week, so hold on tight!

A big congratulations to Haley who has been nominated for the Excellence in Education Award this year. We have all felt the incredible impact Haley has had on our school and we have all benefitted from her incredible collaborative approach! Congrats Haley!

A few notes to get you rolling–short and sweet this week:
1) SIW this week is in house. Agenda coming soon–we have lots to catch up on!

2) Please encourage parents to support the auction and to attend it! We are still in need of donations for the class baskets, donations for the silent auction, and volunteers. Encourage parents to be on the look out for communications from me all week. Thanks! Also, hoping all of you can make it to the auction as well–it’s always a lot of fun!

3) I have an admin meeting Tuesday right after school so I’ll be scooting out around 2:40pm.

4) No Cafe Amity or Bread and Jam this week…we’re putting all energies toward the auction!

Happy Earth Day!
Hoping you had a beautiful, sunny weekend! Last week was a tough one so I am hopeful you had time to take care of yourself over the weekend. I’m looking forward to a great week!

A few notes to get you going:
1) Team Collaboration Time on Tuesday, 2:45-3:30pm. I will be at an admin meeting.

2) SIW this week is Educator Network. We will be at Jewel Elementary from 2-3:15pm.

3) FIRE DRILL on Thursday at 10:45am

4) Meeting for Grades 1/2/3 with Carol on Thursday. 2:45 in Grade 2 room. She’d like to update you on how we are identifying students for Special Education.

5) Please share info about the auction in all your communications for the next 2 weeks. We need continued support of the class baskets, donation procurement, and volunteers. All this info will be shared by me as well, but it’s crunch time so we need all the help we can get! Thanks!

6) I’ll be starting up Mini observations again. For this round I’ll just be doing it spontaneously and will follow up with you afterwards.

School-wide theme: Stewardship

Hey Y’all,
I hope you had a fantastic weekend and are excited to meet with families this week!

First, a little housekeeping:
*At the end of afternoon Choice Time please be sure to collect the balls and other equipment on the playground. When I came to work on Friday morning there were 15 balls that had been left overnight. The kids are super helpful if you ask. Also, please be sure the door is shut if you are the last adult in.

*Students staying in for afternoon Choice Time is becoming a little bit of a concern for me. I’ve noticed over the last few weeks that we have anywhere from 20-30 kiddos staying in, but often there are no teachers with rooms open or teachers in the hallways. The idea of Choice Time only works if teachers are in their rooms or in the hallways. I think we either need to recommit to having rooms open and teachers available, or we need to switch from Choice Time to recess where everyone goes outside. Personally, I love the idea of kids having a choice and want to keep it, but we can only do so if we commit to being available. Thoughts?

A few notes to get you going:
1) Sarah Swoffer, our visiting artist, returns Tuesday to work with Grades 3/4/5. Grade 3/4/5 teachers–have you secured 3-4 parent volunteers? If not, please reach out to parents right away. Thanks!

2) Reminder that our new Student Success Meeting date is April 18.

3) Auction prep continues this week. Class Leads reached out to families last week to kick start donations for the Themed Baskets. Donated items will continue to be collected in your classrooms and the lead will be responsible for maintaining it. Please continue to mention the baskets in your weekly notes to families.

4) Reminder: April is Child Abuse Prevention month and it’s time for our annual abuse prevention lessons. Thanks to those of you who emailed me your time frame for getting started on the lessons. For those who have not yet emailed me, please do so first thing this week.

5) How are things going with our school wide theme of Stewardship? If you’re looking for ideas there are many ways students could be engaging with stewardship around school–helping organize the library, picking up garbage in the hallways, cleaning the stage, helping do a Spring cleaning in the classroom, picking up playground equipment at the end of break times, etc.

6) I’ll be leaving on Wednesday around 12:30pm for an admin meeting across the street. I will also be out on Thursday. Call or text if you need anything.

School-wide Theme: Stewardship

Hello and welcome back!
I hope you had an amazing break and I’m looking forward to hearing about all your adventures! I spent a few days in Corvallis with the family and stopped at about an hour east of there on the way home…

A few notes to get you going:
1) Conversations next week! Please be sure you send out sign-ups first thing this week if you have not already done so. Have you included some evening times?

2) Short staff meeting this Tuesday. Scott Maben will be here (Tammy is not able to be here) at 2:45pm to share info about the upcoming levy and answer questions. Ray’s room.

3) SIW is a Teacher Work Day–enjoy!

4) Visiting artist April 2 and 9–Sarah Swoofer will be here doing acrylic self portraits with every class during Enrichment time (as a reminder see recent communication about Grades 3/4/5 using the April 9 Enrichment times). Have you secured 3-4 parent volunteers? If not, please do so right away. Thanks!

5) New Student Success Meeting date: April 18. At these meetings we’ll really be focussing on students who have been receiving support and checking in to see how they are doing.

6) You’ll notice that you have a new phone in your room–you must keep this phone plugged in! We have been out of compliance in most of our classrooms and we need to be sure we are keeping these phones plugged in. Ideally, Patti and I should be able to reach out to you using the phone if there is a student who needs to be sent to the office (meds, leaving early, etc). We’ll try to use the phone minimally, but it’s a nice thing to rely on if needed!

7) In preparation for the auction there are a few things going on. Various art projects are underway, and starting this week we’ll be reaching out to Class Leads to get Themed Baskets going for each class. Once themes have been chosen (leads will be getting a list to chose from) the leads will be reaching out to families to start donating. Donated items will be collected in your classrooms and the lead will be responsible for maintaining it. Stay tuned!

8) April is Child Abuse Prevention month and it’s time for our annual abuse prevention lessons. I’ll send more specific info in an email soon, but in the meantime please be thinking about when you will teach the lessons this month (can extend into May but started in April).

9) I have to help out with the annual BLS Job Fair on Thursday so I’ll be leaving school around 11:15am. Call or text if you need anything!

10) April 22 is Earth Day–can we find a way to connect our school-wide theme of Stewardship?

I hope you enjoyed the incredible weather this weekend! Only 5 days between you and Spring Break!

A few notes to get you going:
1) SIW this week is all yours!

2) Bree Beal is back again this week as our Visiting Artist. From all accounts the kids really enjoyed their time with her last week!

3) Cafe Amity this Wednesday hosted by Grade 2. If Christine hasn’t reached out yet she will soon!

4) This Wednesday Camp Fire has their annual after school ice skating trip and they’ve asked that we do all we can to get Camp Fire kiddos to them right after school so they can head out. Your help is appreciated!

5) IMPORTANT: On April 2 and 9 we will have another visiting artist, Sarah Swoffer (her organization is called Let’s Paint), and she will be doing acrylic self portraits with every class! She has requested that we get 3-4 parent volunteers to help out with each class. Please reach out to parents this week with the request. Below is the schedule–you’ll notice that April 9th Enrichment time will be used by 3/4/5 since there is no school that Friday.

April 2
K, 1, and 2 will be a regular Enrichment time. K will use the whole hour(ish).

April 9
10:00-11:00am: Grade 3
12:00-1:00pm: Grade 4
1:20-2:20: Grade 5

6) Just and FYI, there is a healthy Tech Talk on Tuesday at 6pm. Grade 4 and 5 families have been invited and many have signed up.

7) On April 2 a district rep will be at our Staff Meeting to provide info about the upcoming levy.

8) My gal is having surgery on Wednesday so at some point in the day I will be heading out-we don’t find out the scheduled time until Tuesday afternoon. I’ll be out on Thursday but back on Friday.

9) As requested I have moved the end of year BBQ to the week before graduation-June 6th.

I hope you had a great weekend! A big thanks to all for the lottery info meeting last week, I always come away from the evening feeling so great about what we do at Amity! Especially after hearing the graduates speak!

A few notes to get you going:
1) SIW this week is in house, 1:30pm in Brian’s room. We’ll have a chance to review data from the survey you took recently, and talk about Stewardship.

2) For the next few weeks we will have Bree Beal, the executive director of Beat Theater, as our Visiting Artist! She will be working with Gina during Enrichment engaging kids in theater and drama games and activities–should be lots of fun!

3) We still have significant Library and ELA funds to spend. Do you have needs or wants? Let’s talk and get you what you’re looking for!

4) SAVE THE DATE: Grade 5 Graduation will be Thursday, June 13. We’ll do the community celebration that morning and the family gathering starting at 5pm.

5) Tammy and Lisa, my bosses, will be at school on Thursday from 10-11am. We’ll be visiting a few classrooms–anyone have something during that time they want us to see?

6) I may be a little late Monday AM dealing with a family matter–I’ll text to let you know.

School wide theme: Stewardship

Hey all,
What a week it was last week–thank you, thank you, thank you for all the hard work, love, and guidance you put in to make the Variety Show so special! I laughed and I cried, and I was once again reminded just how special Amity is!

An update from LA: My dad did well with the surgery and is recovering. He’ll be in the hospital another day or two and then will have to move him to a rehab facility for a few weeks. All in all things are moving in the right direction and I’m so happy that I’m here with him! I need to stay an extra day so I will miss school Monday but will be back Tuesday. Brad will be there again, and I am a phone call or text away–don’t hesitate to reach out.

A few notes to get you going:
1) Patti returns this week-need I say more?! Welcome back Patti!
And of course, we are so grateful for all that Kelli did while we were gone–a true angel! She genuinely appreciated all the love that came her way on Friday!

2) The Amity lottery info night is this Thursday from 5-6pm. We’ll chat about this at SIW this week.

3) Meetings this week: Team Collaboration Time on Tuesday (2:45-3:30), and SIW on Wednesday (1:30-3:30). I’ll send an agenda soon for Wednesday.

4) Are you using the Print Shop whenever possible? Currently we do 75% of printing here at school, 25% at the shop. The more we send to the shop for printing the cheaper the copies are, and doing so saves us vital funds that could be spent on other things! Please do your best to get copy orders to the Print Shop whenever possible. Thanks!

5) New end of year schedule: June 12 is now early release (SIW), June 14 is now a full day, June 18 (last day) is a 1pm dismissal. Obviously we have lots to discuss about those 2 new days but just wanted to get this to you now. We’ll talk!

6) Visiting artists coming in March and April–I have been coordinating with Gina and both will be during Enrichment. March 12/15, 19/22 will be drama and April 2 and 9 will be portraits with acrylic paint. I’m super excited for both!

Greetings All!
I hope you had a great weekend and were able to enjoy the beautiful weather! It’s another fun-filled week ahead with the Variety Show on Wednesday! Thanks again for all the incredibly hard work you put in to supporting the kiddos so that they can really shine Wednesday night!

A few notes to get you off to a great start:
1) Dress rehearsal at 8:30am on Monday! For teachers of the Youngers let’s stay nimble and flexible in terms of when it will be time for your kiddos to leave rehearsals. There are always a few that want to stay for the whole rehearsal and they are welcome to stay! Also, let’s have a short meeting after school on Monday to sort out responsibilities at the show, just to be sure we’re all on the same page. 2:45 in Brian’s room.

2) On Wednesday, while you are at Ed Network, I will move all the props with the help of a few parents. Right after school on Wednesday it would be really helpful if we could get all the props out into the hallway near the playground door so everything is ready to load into volunteers cars.

Also, we’ll meet at Caldera at 5pm (15th Street entrance), and doors open at 5:30pm. We’ll start the show promptly at 6pm!

3) Wheel of Talent on Thursday morning. Grade 3 will incorporate this into their Community Time and then we’ll spend the first part of the morning enjoying abbreviated versions of the Variety show acts. There’s nothing you need to do to prepare for this, just leave Thursday AM a little open. It’s a great way to slow roll the day after the show!

School wide theme: Kindness and Compassion

Team,
I hope you had an amazing long weekend–seems like it came at just the right moment! I took the extra time to go visit Kaila at OSU and my daughter Arielle and her family. It was a great visit all around, and my 3 year old granddaughter even read me a book…I swear this was not staged!

A huge thank you to all of you for the Student Success Meetings last week. The meetings were very productive and have given us some direction in terms of moving forward with support for students in the coming weeks. Thank you!!

A few notes to get you going:
1) Variety Show rehearsals this week: Per our conversation at lunch on Friday, we will have a regular (45 min) rehearsal on Tuesday and then meet for a few minutes on Tuesday after school to determine the plan for the rest of the week. Let’s meet in the Staff Room at 2:45 Tuesday.

2) SIW this week is a Teacher Work Day! I’ll be leaving for an admin meeting that day around 2:45pm.

3) SIW next week is Educator Network. I explored the possibility of being able to forgo the Ed Network since we have the Variety Show that night, but we’re not able to do so. Please be sure to get signed up for a workshop–Lori shared these steps to sign up: Pick a session from this list, Watch this video on how to sign up in UKG (watch first 2:00 minutes).

I will work with some parents to get the props delivered to Caldera that day, and then we’ll meet up at Caldera at 5pm to get things ready to go.

4) End of day release: The last few weeks have seen lots of kiddos wandering down the hallway 5-10 minutes before the end of day release time. I have been sending them back to class with the instructions to wait until it is clear that they have been excused. Please take the time at the end of each day this week to reinforce end of day expectations and be sure that students are staying with you until they have been “officially” excused. Thanks!

5) Amity Eats February fundraiser is at Cuppa Yo this Thursday from 4pm-close at the Westside location on Newport. Money raised goes to Friends of Amity (and therefore to us and our students!). Please encourage families to participate in any communications you send out this week.

Speaking of FOA, this would be a great time to request some things off your wish list! Let me know what you’re thinking and let’s see if we can get it ordered!
